SELF-ESTEEM PADA ACNE FIGHTER YANG MELAKUKAN KONSULTASI ONLINE HALODOC DI KOTA JAMBI

Abstract

Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin conditions that significantly affects the psychological well-being of individuals, particularly in terms of self-esteem. This study aimed to determine the description of self-esteem among acne fighters who performed online consultations through the Halodoc application and those who did not, as well as to examine whether there is a significant difference between the two groups in Jambi City. This study employed a quantitative comparative method with 67 participants consisting of 35 acne fighters who conducted online consultations via Halodoc and 32 acne fighters who did not conduct online consultations. The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) was used as the measurement instrument, with 9 valid items (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.852). Due to non-normal data distribution confirmed by the Shapiro-Wilk test, the Mann-Whitney U non-parametric test was applied. Results showed a statistically significant difference in self-esteem between the two groups (U = 164.500, Z = -4.979, p < 0.001). The Halodoc consultation group demonstrated a higher mean self-esteem score (Mean = 29.20) compared to the non-consultation group (Mean = 21.97). Both groups were predominantly in the moderate self-esteem category; however, the consultation group had a higher overall global self-worth. These findings suggest that active participation in online medical consultation is associated with higher self-esteem among acne fighters, supporting problem-focused coping as a psychological protective mechanism.
