PSIKOANALISIS SIGMUND FREUD DALAM KONFLIK BATIN DAN STRUKTUR KEPRIBADIAN TOKOH BAMBANG DALAM NOVEL SENDIRI KARYA TERE LIYE

Abstract

This Study aims to analyze the iner conflict and personality structure of the character Bambang in Tere Liye’s novel Sendiri using Singmund Freud’s psychoanalytic perspective. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method eith a literary psychology approach. The primary data consist of the complete novel text, while secondary data are drawn from books, scholarly articles, and previous studies relevant to psychoanalytic criticism. Data were collected through close reading and detailed note-taking on utterances, narrative descriptions, and character actions that reflect the dynamics of the id, ego, and superego. The data were then classified, subjected to content analysis, and interpreted descriptively to reveal forms of inner conflict, types of anxiety, and ego defense mechanisms used by the main character. The findings show that Bambang’s personality is shaped by the tension between id impulses to maintain his relationship with susi, the ego’s consideration of social and economic realities, and the superego’s control through moral values, guilt, and family responsibility. These inner conflicts generate moral and neurotic anxiety managed through rationalization, denial, regression, and sublimation, enabling the character gradually to accept loss and reconstruct a more adaptive meaning of himself and his life. This emphasizes the usefulness of psychoanalysis in contemporary literary studies.
